Myristicin: From its biological effects in traditional medicine in plants to preclinical studies and use as ecological remedy in plant protection

Myristicin is an allylbenzene and a major key constituent of many plant species, such as Myristica fragrans Houtt. (nutmeg), Foeniculum vulgare Mill. (fennel), Petroselinum crispum (Mill.) Fuss (parsley). Their parts have been used in traditional medicine flavoring seasoning for cooking but, biopesticides with natural compounds. has related several biological effects, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, analgesic, hepatoprotective. The uses include the treatment complications to gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, gynecological disorders. However, studies reported contraindications associated high dose consumption myristicin. This review summarizes activities myristicin myristicin-rich plants, toxicological effects along its bioavailability, metabolism. In addition, their role ecological remedy plants protection reviewed. Nutmeg more pharmacological but also most contraindication toxically reports.
